Professional experience

1998-now

During the last decade, I worked with the Reactor Institute Delft of Delft University of Technology. My research focuses on the static design and dynamics of new innovative reactor types. Among these are the molten salt reactor and gas-cooled high temperature reactors, both with a thermal and fast neutron spectrum. On each of these topics, supervision is given to a post-doc and/or a PhD student. Furthermore, education is provided at TU-Delft, among which the lectures on Nuclear Reactor Physics, both the standard (AP3341) and the advanced series (AP3321), Kinetics and Dynamics of Nuclear Reactors (AP3631) and neutron shielding at the Radiological Health Physics lectures (AP3371). Furthermore, several post-academic courses are given at the national level and abroad. In August 2000, a lecture was taught at the Frederic Joliot/Otto Hahn summer school in France, in March 2007 at the VHTR Eurocourse in Germany, and in November 2008 at the VHTR Eurocourse in France.

1992-1998

In this period, I worked with the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation (ECN-Nuclear Energy) now NRG, my research focused on transmutation of actinides and long-lived fission products. These products are being produced in nuclear reactors by neutron capture in U-238 and fission of U-235. In particular, the transmutation of long-lived Tc-99, the use of plutonium in MOX fuels and the transmutation of americium in nuclear reactors with a thermal or fast neutron spectrum were studied. During this period, I supervised two PhD students until the successful defense of their thesis at Delft University of Technology.

1987-1992

During my PhD work at the Interfaculty Reactor Institute (IRI) of TU-Delft, where I developed a computer code for gamma-ray shielding. This code differs from the existing ones by a very flexible geometry design and new updated nuclear data libraries. Furthermore simple and advanced calculation algorithms were developed for the calculation of neutron streaming through ducts. In cooperation with Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BUTE), experiments were performed to validate these new calculation techniques. During these years, several contributions were made to the reactor physics lectures at the Interfaculty Reactor Institute.
